Resplendent in a sparkled top hat, electric drummer Lynn leads the band onstage and dives into the intro to the set opener and new single “Crazy As Me”. While the track has previously had a pretty solid review from us, this song really stands up in a live setting. Frontwoman Jane Britton’s voice is much bigger and soulful tonight, filling the unfortunately sparsely populated room.
A duo of more straightforward rock tracks keep the set rolling before more digital new song “Man Of War” kicks in with a whole host of samples and keys, suggesting a more diverse, tech-orientated new sound for the band.
A dark, sultry rendition of “Faith Hope Loves Faith” follows, including an excellent guitar solo before final song “Dance With The Fire”‘s handclap outro and ridiculously catchy “badadada” line rond off a good set that is pretty well received by the Manchester crowd.
Above everything else and despite the small crowd, Call Me Diva look like they’re playing music that they like and having fun up on stage – that’s the aim, I guess.
